Cooking Leveling Guide - 1-450

Cooking is an easy skill to level up alongside Fishing. While it is possible to level up this skill without fishing, it is expensive and time consuming for no reason, so I don’t recommend it. You will need Simple Wood and a Flint and Tinder to start so you can make your camp fires – which can be bought from Asoran in Orgrimmar or Bryllia in Ironforge. After this, you can start gathering your recipes – recipes are going to be needed as you level so you should get them as you can. If you need to pick them up in the Auction House, it might cost you additional gold. Here is a complete list of the recipes you’ll need to level with:

Ingredients Required for Recipes:

Level 1-75

To reach Level 75, cook Brilliant Smallfish until you reach Level 50 and then follow up with Longjaw Mud Snappers until you reach level 75.

Level 75-150

Train as a Journeyman and cook Longjaw Mudsnappers until you reach Level 100 and then follow up with Bristle Whisker Catfish until you reach level 150.

Level 150-225

Get your Expert Cookbook to become an Expert (Wulan in Desolace for Horde and Shandrian in Ashenvale for Alliance). Start cooking Bristle Whisker Catfish next to reach Level 175 and then cook Mithril Head Trout to reach 225.

Level 225-300

The next level of Cooking requires that you complete a quest to get there. To get this quest, you need to talk to Dirge Quickcleave in Gadgetzan who will give you the quest, “Clamlette Surprise”. To complete it you need to gather the following:

Once you are an Artisan Cook, start cooking Spotted Yellowtails until you reach Level 250 and then make Poached Sunscale Salmon until you reach Level 275. The last item here is to cook Mightfish Steaks to reach level 300.

Level 300-375

Buy your master Cookbook from either Baxter in Thrallmar or Gaston in Honor Hold, both in Hellfire Peninsula. Then start cooking Feltail Delights until you reach Level 330. Next up cook Blackened Sporefish to reach Level 340 and Golden Fish Sticks to Reach Level 355.

To reach Level 375, you will need to cook Spicy Crawdads which the Furious Crawdads that can be caught in the floating pools above Terokkar Forest.

Level 375-450

Train as a Grand Master in your starting town in either Borean Tundra or Howling Fjord and start making Grilled Bonescale to reach the rest of the way to Level 375 if you skipped Spicy Crawdads. Then, to reach Level 415, cook Pickled Fangtooth and Glacial Salmon. You will need Northern Spices for every dish you make from here on out so buy a good stock of them.

Go to Dalaran to find your higher end, rare recipes and get your Dalaran Cooking Rewards so that you can purchase them from the vendors in your faction’s side of the city. Cook Snapper Extreme to reach Level 425.

To reach Level 450, you have a few options. You will need 3 Cooking Awards to get either recipe you can make here, so make sure to get those. Small Feast is easier to make but will require more than a Great Feast. For a Small Feast you will need Nettlefish, Rhino Meat and Glacial Salmon. For a Large Feast you will need Deep Sea Monsterbelly, Chunk O Mammoth, and Rockfin Grouper. The hardest item to get is the Deep Sea Monsterbelly which can only be caught in the frozen sea with a fishing skill of 575.
